The present invention relates to a method of sample preparation for atomic spectrometric techniques, wherein a liquid analyte or analyte solution, emulsion or suspension is applied onto a solid substrate and is subsequently sampled by desorption pulses, which may be pulses of laser radiation or discharge. At the same time, the substrate is made of a material or covered by a layer of material that absorbs the used desorption pulses. Alternatively, a liquid starting sample along with at least one auxiliary substance that absorbs the said desorption pulses can be applied to the substrate.
