PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an outdoor unit where a refrigerant storage container with a large capacity can be installed without size enlargement and its refrigeration-cycle efficiency is not decreased, and to provide an air conditioner provided with the outdoor unit. SOLUTION: The outdoor unit 1 includes a machine chamber 4 with a compressor 6, a four-way valve 7 or the like installed therein, a blower chamber 5 with a blower 11 installed therein, an outdoor heat exchanger 10 located over the region from the rear-surface side of the machine chamber 4 to the rear-surface side and side surface of the blower chamber, a container for storing a surplus refrigerant, and an indoor-unit connection port 14 constituted by a liquid-refrigerant port 15 and a gas-refrigerant port 16 and provided on a side surface of the machine chamber 4 so that a plurality of indoor units 40a to 40n are connected thereto. The container for storing the surplus refrigerant is constituted by a high-pressure refrigerant storage container 30 and a low-pressure refrigerant storage container 31. Either of the high-pressure refrigerant storage container 30 and the low-pressure refrigerant storage container 31 is covered with a heat insulating material 34 and then installed in the blower chamber 5.
