A method of carrying persons comprises the steps of: (i) providing an apparatus comprising a base 1, a boom 2 mounted at one end region on the base 1 and at the other end region supporting a pod 4 for accommodating five or more persons, the boom 2 being mounted on the base 1 for pivoting movement about a horizontal axis and a vertical axis; (ii) manoeuvreing the boom 2 to bring the pod 4 to be received at a first boarding station P5; (iii) persons approaching the pod 4 and being received by the pod at the first boarding station P5; (iv) manoeuvreing the boom 2 to raise the pod 4 to an elevation above the first boarding station P5; (v) manoeuvreing the boom 2, either to return the pod 4 to be received at the first boarding station P5 or to bring the pod 4 to be received at a second boarding station P6; (vi) and persons received by the pod 4 leaving the pod at the first boarding station P5 or the second boarding station P6. |
