PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method that simultaneously achieves microdispersion of rubber and compounding with high volume fractions in a method for producing a thermoplastic elastomer composition in which the rubber has a dispersed phase and the resin has a continuous phase. SOLUTION: The rubber (A) and the resin (B) are first kneaded at a temperature T<SB>1</SB>lower than the melting point T<SB>m</SB>of the resin (B) and then kneaded at a temperature T<SB>2</SB>higher than the melting point T<SB>m</SB>of the resin (B). Preferably, the rubber (A) and the resin (B) are kneaded in a twin-screw kneader, wherein the first kneading zone of the twin-screw kneader is set to T<SB>1</SB>, and the last kneading zone is set to T<SB>2</SB>.
