A sensor assembly 30 for connection to a mobile consumer electronic device 20, the assembly comprising a connector and cable for connection to the device 24. The detector 30 provides a signal, which may be by virtue of the sensors varying resistance and may be responsive to electric current, light or temperature among other parameters. The connector may be an audio jack which has a least two contacts, such that two conductors are used for the sensor signal, with the sensor possibly responsive to a signal received at the other contacts. In embodiments, the assembly is used to remotely monitor consumer energy use, the detector 30 being placed at an energy meter, to detect parameters indicating energy use, sending a response to a mobile phone or device 20 by audio connector, which then communicates the data by any communication or network means 22 available to it. |
