Disclosed are a switching mode converter which performs a system-on-chip and offers a safe bootstrap function, and a control method thereof. The switching mode converter comprises a switching device in which one side is connected to input power and the other side of a first semiconductor device connected to the ground; a bootstrap capacitor in which one side is connected to the other side of the first semiconductor device; a current source which is connected to the output end of a common charge pump and the other side of the bootstrap capacitor; and a control unit which controls the output current of the current source to control the charging of the bootstrap capacitor and the gate voltage of the switching device. The control unit is provided to detect the charging voltage of the bootstrap capacitor and control the output current of the current source based on the charging voltage, thereby performing the system-on-chip (SoC); offering a safe bootstrap function; protecting the switching device by preventing the increase of the gate voltage of the switching device; and preventing the increase of the unit costs of a product because external capacitors are unnecessary.
