An apparatus for absorbing or converting energy from waves or currents in water comprises an energy capture element 3 which moves in response to movement of the water. The energy capture element 3 is constrained to move along a track defined by horizontal elongate guide elements 1. The energy capture element 3 may be able to vary the effect of water movement by turning, inflatable parts, or by using movable flaps. The height and orientation of the guide elements 1 may be controlled, and the system may be mounted on a submerged or floating platform. The energy capture element may be a hollow bluff body and may house power take-off equipment. |
