The expandable roof assembly 210 comprises a roof portion 212 and a support assembly 216. The support assembly supports the roof portion. The assembly moves from a retracted to expanded condition wherein between the two conditions the roof portions moves both horizontally and vertically. Preferably the change is reversible. The roof portion may comprise several parts which may overlap in the retracted and expanded conditions. The roof portion may be rotated during the changing between conditions or keep substantially the same orientation. Also included may be wall assemblies and support members. In the retracted condition the wall assemblies may be retracted into a stowed condition and unfolded as the roof assembly is expanded. There may be two wall components which are opposite each other in the expanded condition. The roof assembly may have a footprint in the retracted condition that the roof portions expand beyond in the expanded condition.
