The present invention relates to a dishwasher which re-uses water and a controlling method thereof. The dishwasher according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises a body with a washing tub in which dishes are placed to be washed; a sump unit which is provided in the lower part of the body, contains water, and pumps the water; a spraying nozzle which receives the water from the sump unit and sprays the water to the washing tub; a storage tank which is provided in the lower part of the body and receives and contains the used water from the sump unit; a water pipe connecting the sump unit and the storage tank; and a pump which is connected to the water pipe and pumps the water in the storage tank to the sump unit in order to re-use the water.
