In a ship's window of the type comprising a main frame a to which is hinged &c. a glass-holding frame b and a deadlight c, the means for fastening the deadlight in watertight position over the glass-holding frame comprises a ring revolubly associated with the deadlight, spaced projections j' provided on the ring, co-operating members a8 provided on the window's main frame, and hand-operable means for turning the revoluble ring to cause wedging engagement, or disengagement, as desired, of its projections j' with the members a8 of the main frame. The ring j is provided on a section of its periphery with teeth j3 (Fig. 2) in mesh with the teeth of a pinion m revolubly housed in a bearing boss c3 provided on the deadlight, said pinion having a socket m1 for the reception of a handle or key. The means for pressing the glass holding frame b in watertight engagement with the main frame a comprises a ring g revolubly associated with the main frame, spaced projections g1 on the ring g, co-operating members b3 provided on the frame b, and means whereby the ring g may be turned to cause wedging engagement of its projections g1 with the members b3. The revoluble ring g of the main frame is provided on a section of its periphery with teeth g2 in mesh with the teeth of a pinion h revolubly housed in a bearing boss a6 provided on the main frame, said pinion having a socket h' for the reception of a handle or key.
