1. A backlight unit comprising:
a light source unit for providing collimated light and for controlling the collimated light to be emitted in a plurality of light exit directions, the light source unit comprising a plurality of light sources arranged in a stepwise arrangement such that heights of the plurality of light sources vary stepwise, and the stepwise arrangement is repeated at least once such that each of a first group of light sources and a second group of light sources comprises at least one light source that is positioned at each height; and a light guide plate comprising a light guide unit for guiding light incident from the light source unit by internal reflection, and a plurality of light exit units that are formed as protrusions on a surface of the light guide unit to emit light proceeding through the light guide unit by reflection.
