A stackable modular filter cup has features to allow stacked cups to be separated without the need for substantial effort yet without diminishing the effect of vacuum assisted filtration. Each cup is formed with a slip seal segment and/or a series of substantially vertical channels or ridges on an inner or outer wall to reduce surface contact between nested filter cups.

A stacked column filtration assembly comprising: a plurality of stackable filter cups each having a sidewall wherein a bottom end of the sidewall has portions defining an annular flange for receiving a filter; a dedicated filter secured to the flange of each filter cup for filtering solids from liquids, each cup being sized and shaped to nestingly receive another of the plurality of cups, wherein a substantially annular lower portion of the sidewall of each cup defines a slip seal segment, wherein the lower portion is formed with a frustum angle different than the angle of an upper portion of the sidewall, thereby allowing the lower portion of each cup when functioning as a lower cup to register against the outer surface of a sidewall of an adjacent upper filter cup nested in the lower cup, each filter cup having a plurality of ribs or grooves formed on either the outer surface of the sidewall or on the inner surface of the sidewall to substantially prevent adhesion of engaging walls of the plurality of cups when nested, wherein a lower portion of the sidewall of each cup forms an annular shoulder; and, a filter stem having an open top end which is securely received by the annular shoulder of a lowermost filter cup, the stem including a main body defining a hollow interior for receiving fluid.
