In an altimeter of the type having an actuator responsive to pressure changes mounted in a movable housing and adapted to operate altitude indicating elements, and having also a pressure datum indicator, the said datum indicator and the altitude indicating elements are adapted to be set by means which ensure for any setting the correct relationship between the readings at any instant of the altitude indicator and the pressure datum indicator, said means comprising a gear train providing a linear driving connection for the altitude indicator, a second gear train providing a linear driving connection for the datum indicator and a third gear train incorporating a non-linear control over the second gear train. The capsules 3, Fig. 2, and the usual drive connection between them and the pointer carrying spindle 24 are mounted in a rotatable housing 1 which carries a gear-wheel 16. The spindle 24 supports at its top end three pointers 4, 5, 6 interconnected by suitable gearing. Integral with the gear 16 is a gear 17 which carries a plate 18 having a vertical pin on which two planet wheels 20, 21 are mounted. The wheels 20, 21 mesh with sun wheels 22, 23 carried by sleeves 22a, 23a, respectively. The sleeve 22a passes through the sleeve 23a and carries a pinion 25 which is in the gear train to a datum indicating counter 26. The sleeve 23a carries a cam follower 27 which co-operates with a cam 28 connected by gearing to the gear 17. The arrangement is such that when, during setting, the knob 13 is rotated the gears 16, 17 are rotated by the gear 15 and a linear movement is given to the pointers 4, 5 and 6 and a non-linear movement to the datum indicator 26. |
