PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process useful to prepare on an industrial scale 3-(4-propylheptyl)-4-morpholinethanol, namely delmopinol, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts and/or solvates thereof.SOLUTION: In the method, delmopinol is prepared by subjecting a novel intermediate compound represented by the formula (II) to a deprotection and a cyclization reaction. (R1 and R2 are H and (C1-C6) alkyl, or form (C5-C6) cycloalkyl together with C to which they are attached; and R3 is CF3, (C1-C4) alkyl, phenyl, or the like.)
