The invention relates to the field of biomedical and pharmacological research, particularly the fields of immunology, allergies, cancerous diseases, bone diseases and autoimmune diseases. The invention is based upon the recent finding that SWAP-70 dimerises, that this dimerisation occurs across a specific, largely unique and limited region of the protein, and that this dimerisation is central to the function of the protein (and probably its stability). The invention provides a screening method that allows the identification of new active substances which, by means of attachment to the dimerisation domain and inhibition of SWAP-70 activity, prevent the supporting function of SWAP-70 in tumorigenesis, tumour cell migration and invasion, bone-resorbing osteoclast activity, allergic reaction, and in autoimmune diseases. The problem is solved by a method for identifying a substance that inhibits the activity of SWAP-70, said method comprising the following steps: bringing at least one test substance into contact with SWAP-70, detecting the degree of dimerisation of SWAP-70, and selecting a test substance that inhibits the dimerisation of SWAP-70. |
