An image processing apparatus comprises an image acquisition unit (50, S220), a correction unit (50, S230), and an image generation unit (50, S240). The image acquisition unit (50, S220) acquires, from a light receiving element for receiving, via a near infrared filter that mainly passes near infrared therethrough, a light from a specified space that is specified beforehand as a space area around the vehicle and from a light receiving element for receiving, via a visible light filter that passes visible light and near infrared therethrough, a light from the specified space, image signals representative of an image obtained by projecting the specified space onto a plane consisting of a plurality of areas. The correction unit regards one of a plurality of areas constituting the image as an area of interest and corrects the area of interest in such a manner that the smaller the difference between the intensity of the near infrared in the area of interest and the intensity of the light obtained by combining the visible light and the near infrared is, the greater the intensity of the near infrared in the area of interest is made. The correction unit performs the corrections for the respective areas, and the image generation unit generates a new image on the basis of the plurality of corrected areas. |
