A jigging conveyer (Fig. 1) has a number of conveying sections 1 and a tightening device 7 for holding the sections in place to form the conveying path, wherein the tightening device comprises a member 7 which extends along the conveyer and which is formed of a number of components or parts each of which is mounted on the respective conveyer sections so as to be movable longitudinally with respect thereto and has substantially the same length as the section, means being provided to connect the tightening device to the end conveyer sections so that axially-directed stresses created in the tightening device serve to stiffen the conveyer. The adjacent conveyer sections are coupled and interengaged by a nose 4 fitting beneath a stop 2 and are further coupled by means of tightening member 7 which is formed of components 7, each of which is movable in guides 5 and 6 fixed to and beneath the conveyer and is limited by stops 10, adjacent components being coupled by eye 9 and pin 8. The tightening member 7 is tightened by a screw working in a nut fixed to an end conveying section the tightening component at the other end conveying section being fixed to said end conveying section. The tightening member is in tension, the conveying sections in compression. The conveying sections and brackets may be made of light alloy, e.g. Silumin. Fig. 6 of 723/49. The tightening member 30 has its components coupled by ball and socket coupling 27-28 and the conveying sections are coupled by twin links 24 having pin-andsocket couplings 25-26. The tightening is tightened by nut-and-screw so that it is in compression, the conveying sections being in tension. Figs. 9, 11, 12 of 723/49. The tightening member 42 has each pair of its components coupled by eye 31 and eyed fork 30, the connection being made by pin.32 slotted at.33 and 34, the slots co-operating with nose 35 secured to fork 30 so that the pin is slidden in with the handle 37 thereof vertical and secured by rotating it to the horizontal position. The said tightening components are freely mounted in loose brackets 28 mounted on the converging sections and are tightened at 39. Figs. 3 and 6 of 20365/49. The conveyer sections 11 may be mounted on wheels 10 mounted in brackets 15 secured to casing 18-19, each wheel being supported at its centre by bushes 14 and at its periphery by rail 12, and its axis being movable longitudinally in slots 16 in said bracket. Alternatively, a wheel bracket may be secured to both bottom and side of the casing. Fig. 10 of 21365/49. The bottom of each pair of adjacent conveyer sections is coupled by pin and slot coupling, the slots being carried by fixed brackets 38 and by pivoted brackets 37 and 39, such that centre pin 44 contacts its slot end but the other pins.do not contact their slot end. As a result, the stress is shifted from the section sides to the section bottom.
