A traversing shoot 8 comprises a rigid rectilinear guideway 1, carriage 3 displaceably mounted on the said guideway and through a load-transmitting connection which permits relative movement attached to the shoot at or near its discharge end between the carriage and the shoot ; and shoot traversing mechanism including a driving member 14 which drives the carriage or the shoot through a connection 12 permitting relative movement in a vertical direction between said member on the one hand and said carriage or shoot on the other hand. Figs. 1 and 3. Shoot which is pivoted at its upper end is connected at 12 to the carriage 3 which is traversed over the guideway 1 by means of driving screw 14 and nut 16. Carriage 3 carries rollers 4 and 5 which press against the guideway 1 and run there-along. The carriage 3 carries nut 16 which engages any one of the two screws 15, Fig. 2 (not shown), oppositely cut into rotating screw 14, and also carries rotatable bolt 10 which mounts a pair of rollers 12 which run along guide 13 fixed to the lower part of shoot 8. Rotation of the screw 14 drives the nut 16 and through bolt 10 and rollers 12 traverses the shoot along the guideway 1, the rollers 12 running along guide 13 and permitting shoot 8 to traverse the guideway 1. Thus, material passing down the shoot is distributed evenly over the width of hopper 2. Alternatively, the screw 14 and driving nut 16 may be separate from carriage 3, the carriage being connected by rollers 12 to shoot 8 and nut 16 being connected by similar rollers to a separate guide fixed higher on shoot 8. The nut 16 is formed with side channels 18, which channels engage with and slide within vertical members of the carriage so that the nut is drivingly connected to the carriage but is permitted movement in a vertical plane. The screw 14 passes freely through the longitudinal hole 17 cut into the nut and the driving connection is made by lug 24 which enters the hole 17 and may be kept in contact with the screw either by its own weight or, as shown, by a removable cap. Side channels 18 diverge as shown to permit angular "give" of the nut.</p> |
