The present invention provides a permanent-magnet-embedded-type rotary electric machine having excellent rotor strength, capable of being manufactured at low cost, and being able to obtain large torque. The permanent-magnet-embedded-type rotary electric machine has multiple poles of permanent magnets embedded inside a rotor, one pole being configured from two permanent magnets (34a, 34b), wherein the machine has a rotor (3) in which magnet-embedding holes (35a, 35b) communicate with the outer circumference of the rotor. The rotor (3) has, between adjacent poles, a q-axis protrusion (37) protruding in a direction parting away from the c enter of rotor revolution. The magnet-embedding holes (35a, 35b) are arranged so as to form an inverted-V shape. An outer circumferential edge (33) on the outside of the permanent magnets (34a, 34b) has a curvature radius smaller than the distance from a center axis of rotation (4a) to the outermost circumferential part of the rotor. The outer circumferential edge (33) is provided with permanent-magnet-positioning protrusions (38a, 38b) for restricting the movement of the permanent magnets (34a, 34b) toward a space between the adjacent poles. |
