One variation of a method for testing a hearing ability of a user includes: outputting a first audible tone including a first frequency; recording a first volume adjustment for the first audible tone by the user; outputting a second audible tone including a second frequency; recording a second volume adjustment for the second audible tone by the user; selecting a particular hearing model from a set of hearing models based on a difference between the first volume adjustment and the second volume adjustment, each hearing model in the set of hearing models including a hearing test result corresponding to a previous patient; and generating a hearing profile for the user based on the particular hearing model result.
