PIEZOELECTRIC ORIENTED CERAMIC AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING SAME

Provided is a piezoelectric oriented ceramic having as the principal component a potassium niobate-based compound containing at least Li and Na, wherein a step for manufacturing a conventional piezoelectric ceramic can be utilized and a high orientation in an arbitrary direction can be obtained. Also provided is a method for manufacturing the piezoelectric oriented ceramic. This piezoelectric oriented ceramic has a perovskite structure having as the principal component a potassium niobate-based compound containing at least Li and Na. The piezoelectric oriented ceramic is characterized in that: ceramic particles constituting the piezoelectric oriented ceramic have an aspect ratio of no greater than 5; there exists an axis oriented in the {100} direction in the perovskite structure; and the orientation degree calculated by the Lotgering method on the basis of an X-ray diffraction pattern in a cross-section of said direction is at least 0.30.
