The present invention describes compositions for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. In one embodiment, the present invention contemplates a method of identifying an active M. tuberculosis infection. 1. A method of identifying an active M. tuberculosis infection, comprising:
a) providing a patient infected with M. tuberculosis, b) determining the amount of IL12Rβ1 isoform 1 mRNA and IL12Rβ1 isoform 2 mRNA in a cell from said patient, wherein said cell is a peripheral blood mononuclear cell, c) diagnosing the patient as having an active M. tuberculosis infection if the amount of IL12Rβ1 isoform 2 mRNA is greater than the amount of IL12Rβ1 isoform 1 mRNA, d) initiating a therapeutic treatment on said patient with an active M. tuberculosis infection. |
