A cable (1) has an optical fiber (1.1) which is enclosed by a metal-free cable sheath (1.2) and a cable portion (1.5). The optical fiber has light entry surface (1.3) and light exit surface (1.4) with cross-sectional areas. The light exit surface is provided in cable portion. An imaging lens (2) images an object on light entry surface of cable. A mounting portion (3) is provided for receiving image guidance cable and the imaging lens. An opto-electric transducer array (4) arranged outside of imaging system has opto-electrical converter for signal conversion and signal coupling. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) a method for operating imaging apparatus; and (2) a method for manufacturing imaging apparatus.
