Certain aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communications and, more particularly, to techniques for accurately determining a number of data symbols in a data packet. The techniques provided herein may allow a receiving terminal to correct number of symbol calculations based on such ambiguous length field values.

1. A method for wireless communications, comprising:
generating a data packet comprising one or more data symbols; providing, in a preamble field of the data packet, a length field used to calculate a number of data symbols by a receiving entity and a correction field that indicates whether or not the calculated number of data symbols should be corrected, wherein the number of data symbols is based on the length field and a number of training fields; and transmitting the data packet.
