Provided are an alumina sintered body having excellent friability and requiring little grinding power, abrasive grains comprising the alumina sintered body, a grindstone obtained using the abrasive grains, a polishing cloth, and a method for manufacturing the alumina sintered body. An alumina sintered body obtained by sintering a mixture in which alumina and aluminum hydroxide are blended, the alumina sintered body having a porosity of 6 to 35 vol% and a Vickers hardness of at least 4 GPa; abrasive grains comprising the alumina sintered body; a grindstone obtained using the abrasive grains; a polishing cloth; and a method for manufacturing the alumina sintered body.
