Provided are aluminum nitride crystal grains that have an eight-surfaced shape consisting of two opposing hexagonal surfaces and six rectangular surfaces, said shape being flat in the direction in which the hexagonal surfaces oppose each other, wherein the average distance (D) between two opposite corners of a hexagonal surface is in the range of 3-110 μm, the length (L) of a short side of a rectangular surface is in the range of 2-45 μm, the value L/D is between 0.05 and 0.8, the hexagonal surfaces and the rectangular surfaces intersect so as to form curved surfaces without forming an angled edge, and the real density is in the range of 3.20-3.26 g/cm3. Also provided are an aluminum nitride powder containing the aluminum nitride crystal grains, production methods for the grains and the powder, and an organic polymer composition and sintered body which include the aluminum nitride crystal grains. |
