The invention relates to a roll-forming installation for cold-rolling or hot-rolling sheet metal profiles, the sheet metal passing through a plurality of forming stands of the roll-forming installation. The roll-forming installation comprises at least one clamping element (12) which acts upon substantially an area of the surface of the sheet metal (3) and which is mobile in the direction of profiling. The stretch on which the at least one clamping element acts upon the sheet metal covers at least the stretch from a position in the direction of profiling in front of a forming stand (1, 2) to a position behind the same forming stand. The invention allows the sheet metal to be continuously guided, the time and effort for producing and storing sets of rolls to be decreased and the number of controlled axes for forming profiles of varying cross-section to be reduced.
