The present invention provides a method for manufacturing an ester compound of a cellulose derivative, which suppresses a reduction in the degree of polymerization, and an ester compound of a cellulose derivative obtained from the manufacturing method, which has excellent thermal flowability during molding and color tonality. This method manufactures an ester compound of a cellulose derivative by esterification of a cellulose derivative in a mixture comprising an ionic liquid, a cellulose derivative, and an esterification agent, said method being characterized by the use of at least one type of esterification agent selected from the group consisting of carboxylic acid anhydride, carboxylic acid halide, and carboxylic acid. |
