235,840. General Electric Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Patent-Treuhand-Ges. f³r Elektrische Gl³hlampen). June 21, 1924, [Convention date]. Discharge gap apparatus.-An arc lamp suitable for the production of oscillations comprises enclosed tungsten electrodes e, f, and an auxiliary electrode i containing oxides and situated so as to make contact with only one of the main electrodes when the lamp is cold. To strike the arc, the other main electrode e may be displaced by a bimetallic strip e<2> heated by a resistance g. This movement is limited by a stop h. Another bimetallic strip i<2>, acting more slowly, then removes the auxiliary electrode i from the main cathode f, which has been heated by the arc. The striking of the arc may be assisted by a third bimetallic strip carrying the cathode f. The auxiliary electrode i may be a disc of tungsten and thoria. Its holder i<1> may be attached to the stem of the cathode f or directly to the lamp-foot. The lamp may also be designed for alternating current. Specification 230,777, [Class 39 (i), Electric lamps, Arc &c]., is referred to. |
