PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for treating wastewater, which can perform solid-liquid separation of wastewater that can hardly be separated into solids and liquid and has wide variation of the water quality thereof by an apparatus that is simple and stably operable so as to reduce the amount of waste in volume and also can treat the wastewater to a water quality within a legal standard value range, and to provide a method for treating wastewater. SOLUTION: The apparatus 100 for treating wastewater includes: an evaporative concentration device 120 for evaporating a liquid content in a reduced-pressure atmosphere from alkaline wastewater containing an oil content generated in a process for manufacturing steel to remove a solid content being a residual dross and also separating and recovering the evaporated liquid content; and an oil separator 130 provided in a subsequent stage of the evaporative concentration device 120 and separating and removing the oil content from the liquid content separated and recovered by the evaporative concentration device 120.
