Floor covering material is made by applying a layer of unvulcanized rubber to a layer of vinyl plastic, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, a polyvinyl ester, or a copolymer of vinyl compounds (which may be plasticized and contain china clay and wood flour or leather dust) in contiguous small pieces which may be of varying colour and subjecting the layers to heat and pressure. A bonding agent, e.g. adhesive made from copolymers of vinyl compounds and other polymerizable organic compounds, may be used between the plastic and rubber layers. Hessian, wood flour or leather or cork dust may be applied to the exposed rubber surface of the compound material.</p> |
