A mechanism 34 that attaches to a fluid system such as a tap or faucet houses a turbine 58, power solenoid (200, Fig. 4A) and magnet (59, Fig. 4A), wherein the turbine is coupled to the magnet or solenoid in order to generate an alternating current. A voltage rectifier converts the alternating current to a direct current, and is then used to charge an accumulator or capacitor 53. A control unit 54 discharges the stored current through an actuating solenoid and magnet, to which a valve plunger 50 is connected, which can open or close the valve of the fluid system. In some embodiments the power solenoid and magnet may be the same as the actuating solenoid and magnet 52, more than one plunger may be used, and a sensor 60 for activating the mechanism may be included and powered by the stored energy. |
