The present invention relates to a compact wide angle lens system which is used in a compact imaging device such as a portable device, a vehicular black box, and a vehicle rear view camera. The compact wide angle lens system according to the present invention is a compact wide angle lens system in which a first lens having negative power, a second lens having positive power, a third lens having positive power, and an aperture stop are arranged in order from an object side toward an imaging element where an image is formed. The first lens has the negative power and is configured to have a meniscus lens having a first surface convex toward the object side and a second surface convex toward the object side. The first lens is formed for the negative power to become stronger from an optical axis center of the lens toward an optical axis periphery. The second lens has the positive power and has a first surface convex toward the imaging element side and a second surface convex toward the imaging element side. The third lens has the positive power and is configured to have a first surface convex toward the imaging element side and a second surface convex toward the imaging element side.
