A hand knitting appliance having a row of pins 3 between which a series of movable hooks 2 are adapted to draw a yarn into loops for the purpose of knitting a fabric, has additional means associated with it comprising a pair of supports 12, 13 which receive the holders 7, 25 for two rows of the pins 3, 26 whereby the fabric on one row may be readily transferred to the pins of the other row to facilitate the production of plain work. The supports are slidable towards each other to bring the heads of the opposing pins into contact and for this purpose one of the rows may have the heads of the pins provided with a depression to accommodate the opposing pin heads. Alternatively the supports may be mounted vertically. To facilitate production of the fabric by the lifting of the loops of the fabric over the last drawn-out course, the pin shanks may be recessed and fingers may be inserted in the recesses to engage beneath the loops of the fabric around the shank. In one arrangement fingers are mounted in a bar associated with the pin holder and adapted to be pivoted upwardly to throw the loops over the drawnout course. In a further embodiment, the pins are formed with heads at both ends and are alternately clamped between hinged blocks 39, 40, 41, 42 so that the fabric can be easily reversed for making a plain fabric. |
