The invention relates to the production and use of variants of the group 5 allergens of Pooideae, characterised in displaying a reduced IgE reactivity relative to known wild type allergens and also a substantially retained reactivity with T-lymphocytes. Said hypoallergenic allergen varieties can be used for specific immunotherapy (hyposensitisation) of patients with grass pollen allergies or for preventative immunotherapy of grass pollen allergies.
