A drum type washing machine is provided. The washing machine may include a tub, a drum, a motor rotating the drum, bearing housings housing bearings to support a rotation shaft, a suspension connected to the bearing housings and a cabinet to mitigate vibration, a bracket coupled to the bearing housings, and a gasket installed between the bracket and the tub. Such an arrangement may allow volumes of the tub and the drum may be increased without increasing the volume of the cabinet.

1. A drum type washing machine, comprising:
a tub; a drum rotatably arranged in the tub; a shaft connected to the drum; a motor to rotate the shaft; a bearing housing having a support portion including an opening that receives the shaft and an extended portion that extends radially outward from the support portion and beyond an outer circumferential surface of the tub; and a suspension connected to the extended portion of the bearing housing, wherein an upper portion of the bearing housing above the opening in which the shaft is received is semi-circular in shape, and a lower portion of the bearing housing below the opening in which the shaft is received is rectangular in shape, and wherein the extended portion of the bearing housing extends between two opposite corners of the lower portion of the bearing housing formed by its rectangular shape.
