A hitch for connecting a movable object to a rigid rod which includes a semi-rigid main substrate including a plurality of grooves, a flexible element fixedly formed over the main substrate including a first portion for gripping a rigid rod, a clamp connected to the first portion of the flexible element. The clamp includes a lever that couples the clamp to at least one of the plurality of grooves of the main substrate such that the first portion can grip the rigid rod.

1. A hitch for connecting a movable object to a rigid rod, comprising:
a semi-rigid main substrate; a flexible element over at least a portion of an outer surface of the main substrate, the flexible element being unitary and comprising a gripping portion at a first end of the main substrate, an articulation portion at a second end of the main substrate, and a connecting portion extending over an outer surface of the main substrate, the gripping being adapted to grip the rigid rod; a clamp coupled to both the main substrate and the flexible element for flexing the gripping portion of the flexible element to grip the rigid rod; a locking system for locking the hitch to the rigid rod; and an articulation element that provides controllable, constrained, multi-dimensional articulation in the hitch, the articulation element comprising a flexible shaft at an end of the main substrate and the articulation portion of the flexible element, the articulation portion of the flexible element being disposed over and at least partially surrounding the flexible shaft of the main substrate, a cross-sectional feature of the flexible shaft being alterable to control the articulation in the hitch.
