The present invention relates to an electronic device capable of providing route information and to a controlling method thereof. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the electronic device capable of providing route information comprises a display unit which outputs a timeline image object that indicates a moving section corresponding to a preset destination; a navigation unit which extracts route information corresponding to the destination; and a control unit which controls the display unit in order to output at least one graphic object including the extracted route information and place information corresponding to the destination. When one of the at least one graphic object moves on the timeline image object, the control unit controls the navigation unit in order to output route information on a place corresponding to the one graphic object. The navigation unit extracts route information including places corresponding to the preset destination and the one graphic object.
