The present invention relates to a brake control apparatus controlling a brake with an optimal braking force according to final deceleration, judging correctly on the state of a road surface, and avoiding unnecessary power consumption by preventing overload to a motor of an electric brake, and a method thereof. The brake control apparatus comprises: a brake force applying unit which applies a brake force to the motor of the electric brake; a final deceleration measuring unit which measures final deceleration of a vehicle caused by the applied brake force; a storing unit which stores a coefficient of friction according to the brake force and the final deceleration; and a control unit which controls the brake force applying unit to apply, to the motor, a minimum brake force corresponding to final deceleration in an range of coefficients of friction in which an intersection point of the brake force and the final deceleration is included. |
