The present invention relates to an image display apparatus and a method for operating the same. The operation method of the image display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises the steps of displaying a first content list and a home screen, which has an object representing content list conversion, in a first card object; and converting the first content list into a second content list and displaying the second content list when the object representing the contents list conversion is selected. Thereby, the user convenience can be improved.
