The device has a center sheet piling (3) hingedly fixed on a lattice-type beam (1) at a distance from a front sheet piling (2) larger than a length of a zone including a deck to be installed or replaced. A back sheet piling (4) moves along the beam between a rear end (14) of the beam and the center sheet piling. Lifting sets (5, 6) are fixed in position on the beam between the front and center sheet pilings, and spaced at a distance from each other adapted to a length of the deck. Two bogies (7, 8) allow self-supporting and displacement of the deck in co-operation with the lifting sets. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a method for installation of a bridge deck on a gap (2) a method for replacement of a bridge deck.
