The apparatus has a base-deck frame (102) overlying a base-deck floor (104), where the floor is made of metal having higher elastic modulus than another metal used to fabricate the frame. A top cover (202) overlies the frame. An affixing feature affixes the frame to the floor, where the frame is configured to be fastened to both the floor and the top cover to provide a housing for a hard disk drive (200). The frame is configured to be unfastened from both the floor and the top cover. The base-deck floor has thickness no more than 2000 micrometer. The affixing feature comprises a gasket and a fastener, weld, an epoxy, or metal seal. An independent claim is also included for a method for fabricating a multipiece deck.
