PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for decontaminating contaminated soil or incineration ash capable of not only efficiently and effectively decontaminating soil or incineration ash contaminated with radioactive materials such as cesium but also regenerating and reusing decontaminated soil or incineration ash.SOLUTION: A decontamination method comprises the steps of: collecting soil or incineration ash contaminated with radioactive materials; pulverizing the collected soil or incineration ash mechanically at room temperature or under heating; washing the pulverized soil or incineration ash; and separating and collecting components which contain water in large amounts including the radioactive materials from the washed soil or incineration ash. It is possible to enhance decontamination effect by adding a selection step after the pulverization step to select coarse particles from the pulverized soil or incineration ash and/or putting the pulverization step through with use of an oxidizer.
