A cluster server in an instant messaging system and method for communicating between clusters are provided in the present invention, wherein, in the cluster server, a storage unit is used for storing the first subscription information about the client users in the present cluster subscribing the presence status of the client users in other clusters, and the second subscription information about the client users in other clusters subscribing the presence status of the client users in the present cluster; an information classification unit is used for determining whether the communication message transmitted between the client user in the present cluster and the client user in another cluster is a status presenting related message; an information transmission unit is used for transmitting the communication message according to the first subscription information or the second subscription information when the message is a status presenting related message. With the classification processing for the messages between the clusters, the cluster server and method in the present invention can achieve the purpose of using the network bandwidth between the clusters effectively, improving communication efficiency and improving the bearing capability of the whole instant messaging system. |
