A photographing apparatus and a method for controlling the photographing apparatus are provided to efficiently manage power of the photographing apparatus while obtaining GPS(Global Positioning System) location information of a photographing place when photographing. A GPS receiver(150) receives location information from a GPS satellite. When it is touched by a user, at least one touch sensor(160) generates a touch signal. When a touch signal is received from the touch sensor, a controller supplies power to the GPS receiver to control the GPS receiver to receive location information.
