PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image carrier protective agent that has all the performance of prevention of abrasion, filming, and damage to an image carrier, prevention of contamination of charging means, and cleanability. ! SOLUTION: An image carrier protective agent contains a fatty acid metal salt, inorganic lubricant, and melamine-formaldehyde resin particles. An aspect in which the melamine-formaldehyde resin particles have the volume average particle diameter of 0.5 μm or less, and an aspect in which the melamine-formaldehyde resin particles have the volume average particle diameter of 0.1 μm to 0.4 μm, and the like are preferable. !
