In order to protect return currents, several strings (2) of a photovoltaic generator (3), which are connected in small groups respectively via a DC/DC-converter (8), parallel to a common DC voltage intermediate circuit (4), the current which flows over each of the DC/DC-converter (8) is detected and if a return current (17) is detected flowing through one of the DC/DC converters (8), said converter is stopped by controlling the DC/DC-converter (8).
