The invention relates to a drug delivery device (1) for administering a drug, comprising: - a body (9), - at least one electrical unit (EU) and a port (5) for electrically contacting the electrical unit (EU), - an adapter (7) for attaching an injection needle (10) to the drug delivery device (1), - a safety mechanism (S) arranged to prevent contacting the electrical unit (EU) whilst an injection needle (10) is in fluid communication with the drug delivery device (1) and arranged to prevent establishing a fluid communication whilst the electrical unit (EU) is contactable.
