PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that the size of a captured image or a through-image displayed on the monitor screen does not change smoothly due to unevenness of the zoom operation, when the magnification of optical zoom is variable, thus causing discomfort. ! SOLUTION: An electronic camera includes optical zoom means including an optical zoom for changing the magnification optically, image pick-up means for picking up an image via the optical zoom means, acceleration detection means detecting the acceleration for changing the magnification of the optical zoom means, electronic zoom means for changing the magnification of an image captured by the image pick-up means by image processing, and control means for controlling the magnification of the electronic zoom means so that the acceleration of change in the total magnification combining the magnification of the optical zoom means and the magnification of the electronic zoom means falls within a preset range. !
