The lever type cam follower (1) has a bearing (4) that is provided to the pivoting movable support relative to a surrounding structure. A cam mating surface (5) is provided at a bottom (6) of a cross-beam (2). An adjusting element (8) is provided at one end (7) of the cross beam for a contact with a gas exchange valve. The one end of the cross beam is provided with unthreaded opening (9) in which the dome-shaped neck adjustment element is fixed. The aperture in the cross beam is complementary to an outer jacket (13) of the adjusting element. An independent claim is included for a method for adjusting mechanical valve lash.
